St. Joseph School was established in 1832. It is believed to be the first English speaking parochial school established west of the Allegheny Mountains. The seven pioneer families who assisted in the founding of St. Joseph Parish felt that it was necessary to provide for the religious training of their children. This commitment to Catholic education and the secular training of the young people of this area has continued to the present day.
